The Heymann Center is pleased to announce our recent updates! (Pictures below!)
The Dressing Rooms received a much needed facelift. We replaced the carpet, mirrors, electrical, counters and more in all 6 Star Dressing Rooms. Additionally, all lighting has been upgraded to LED fixtures, which are more efficient and do not produce as much heat as the older incandescent mirror lights. The counters are now Corian with new sinks, and all the electrical outlets include USB and USB C type charging ports. Hooray! Phase two of this project, when funded, will include replacing all lighting, flooring, mirrors and countertops in the large chorus dressing rooms!
Next,
The Concession Stands got new under-counter drink coolers for faster service, colder drinks and added floor space. New bars and shelves were built in-house by Heymann Staff, which saved cost. Mirrors were added, salvaged from the dressing room renovation. Lighting was upgraded to LED, and confidence cameras have been added. An ADA height countertop is included for better accessibility. Caterers are now providing an improved selection of beverages, including more top-shelf options for wine, beer and liquor.
Outside,
More Accessibility was added by cutting ramps into the sidewalk around the canopy. This enables wheelchair access from the parking spots near S. College Rd. straight to the front doors. Previously, a person in a wheelchair would need to cross into parking lot traffic to go around the grass median.
Not pictured:
- The entire Ballroom received paint touchups; and, the terrazzo floors (16,000 square feet) were stripped, refinished and buffed to a shine.
- Bushes that had passed their prime were removed; and, more landscaping is on the horizon.
- The roof over the dressing area was repaired, including all new flashing under the brick and transitioning to the roof.
- The main two air conditioning units were replaced in the Auditorium, cycling in more fresh air and cooling the entire theater more efficiently.
- CCTV upgrades bring clear, digital signal between the stage and convention center cameras to the dressing rooms. Source selection can now be routed digitally, improving the experience for our local dance troupes, Mardi Gras clients, touring performers and more.
- Parking gates will be installed soon to alleviate problems with parking availability during performances.
Thanks for your patience and support during our progress!
